The voyage north

Fueled up and ready to go 8/1/07. Lynn, Jack, & George.

Lynn & Jack watch for traffic. The bow seats were one of Jack's favorite spots on the boat.

Seems we either have no wind or it is blowing from exactly the wrong direction. We were hoping to give Jack a few sailing lessons but on days like this at least we have motors.

Jack designed and constructed his own pirate flag. Here, he and George get ready to run it up the pennant halyard.

Jack fishing off the bow.

Jack helped with maintenance chores. Here, he and George work on the fender board.

Approaching the lock to enter the Great Dismal Swamp.

Jack eyes the algae in the swamp.

Jack ready to leave the Dismal Swamp. This is the day the sail drive quit on us.

George at Lynn at Virginia Beach. Just because the boat wouldn't go didn't mean we had to quit having fun. Jack took the photo.

More fun at Virginia Beach. We all played mini-golf.

The road trip north

We did a little sight seeing on the way north but not much. Traffic was REALLY congested. Here is the lighthouse at Cape Henery.

Jack is ready to go to the airport and meet his family.

In D.C.

In front of their hotel, the Darrahs are all together again.

Although we had limited time, we did do a few tourist things. Probably our favorite was Mt. Vernon

Maintenance Roller Coaster

The last (we hope) missing part that we had to find and fly in.

The driver who delivered an Enterprise car said the boat yard looked like a place "boats go to die." The yard was huge and mostly vacant but seeing this line of decaying WWII PT boats certainly makes his statement apropo.

Finally, everything is reassembled and we are ready to launch. Of course we could only hang there a while with the bottom wet until we had paid the bill.

She floats! No leaks and the propeller goes round and round. These are good things.

Our friends Raf and Linda aboard their ketch Quisqueya leading the FHYC Gunkholers Cruise north. We met them in the Alligator River.

The Chase Boat (our dinghy) tied at the Belhaven dinghy dock. We got in a little before 6:00 pm and all businesses downtown were closed.
